~ The Falcon’s Kill ~ Just outside of my house I heard a sudden cry of distress. I looked for the source of the sound and saw a falcon on the ground. When it took flight it was carrying a smaller bird in its claws, still screaming in pain and with fear and distress in its cries. There was nothing I could do to interfere, but a wave of sadness came over me for the captive bird and its impending death; for it was soon to be eaten, nevermore to have breath or delight in the Lord’s provision on earth. I know this is the way of the earth, for the falcon must eat, and so it has been equipped to kill for its food. Nevertheless, I still feel the pain of its victim as I write this. I pondered this … and my sadness, and I wondered briefly whether I have such compassion over the distress and pain of my neighbors on earth as I see them in the grip of Satan, caught in the web of his deceit, ensnared by sin with impending death. I was immediately reminded of news reports of victims of the violent men of earth who are raping, killing, and dismembering those who are not aligned with them in their ways of terror. I realized a difference in my response. Whereas I was not angered by the falcon, though distressed that it had to kill to eat; I had been angered to distraction by the evil, violent men who do horrific things for no good reason, thinking they are serving their non-existent god, or simply serving their own lust of the flesh. God made the falcon, and he made the falcon’s choice of food, and He called it ‘good’, and they are carrying out His plan. God made man, made them male and female, and provided them with abundant things to meet their needs, but did not make them to kill and destroy one another on a whim of lust, greed, or desire to harm. How we have fallen; how we have saddened and angered the God who created all things and gave them to man – it would be justice for God to destroy all mankind for their sins – and once He did in the time of Noah when He flooded the earth and removed all who had breath. At that time He had already formulated a plan for the redemption of man, for though they had died and we continue to die in the flesh to this day, they and we would be standing before Him in the spirit, when all things are done, with no excuse for our sin. His plan was Jesus who intercedes for man. Thanks be unto God for this, for the rescue that only He could do. For though I could not rescue the helpless bird from the falcon’s claws, God has done what man could not do, He makes eternal life available to us, when we willingly enter into His plan. ~ N.
