The Farm And Rehabilitation Meals (FARM) program at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego will enable up to 20 inmates to grow fruits and vegetables on three acres. The kitchen will use the fresh produce, and any additional harvest will be donated to local food kitchens. The garden, which doesnt use any state funding, is being developed in an effort to reduce recidivism. A study done on the garden program at San Quentin State Prison found that fewer than 10 percent of the paroled prisoners who participated in the program were rearrested.
