The Feast of Tabernacles Seven days you shall keep a sacred feast to the Lord your God in the place which the Lord chooses, because the Lord your God will bless you in all your produce and in all the work of your hands, so that you surely rejoice. Deuteronomy 16:15 Today, at sundown, is the beginning of the Feast of Tabernacles, Sukkot in Hebrew. Unlike the serious and solemn reflection of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, the Feast of Tabernacles is a true celebration. This celebration last seven days, as the people remember and celebrate God’s protection and provision during their 40 years in the wilderness. While the children of Israel walked through the wilderness, their clothes and shoes never wore out. The Lord provided manna for them to eat every day. He protected them from the nations who would come against them. God was in their midst, as a pillar of fire at night and a cloud during the day. When we read about their journey, God’s presence is clear, and the love He has for His people is evident. Even when His people were not faithful to Him, God was ever faithful to them. His faithfulness is a part of His character. He cannot act any other way. Look at what Moses said in this verse. The Lord will bless them in all they produce and the work of their hands, so surely they will rejoice. We can all rejoice as the Lord blesses our lives, as we seek to follow Him. We can rejoice in the faithfulness of God. Though men are false, God is faithful. -Matthew Henry-
