The Fernie Free Press 1910 A fatal accident occurred in the C.P.R. yards here on Tuesday afternoon about 5:30, a Slavonian named (______), being the victim. In company with two friends (______) went down the track toward his home but a few moments before the accident. He attempted to board a passing train but missed the footing and was drawn under the wheels. Both his legs were completely severed from his body and he was also horribly bruised about the head. His companions thought that the man was killed and they rushed for aid. Chief Clarke was notified and on arriving on the scene found that the man was still alive. He was taken to the hospital and doctors summoned but it was found that his injuries were so serious that no hopes were entertained for his recovery. Everything was done to make the unfortunate man as comfortable as possible, but nevertheless he succumbed during the night. The deceased was a young man of about twenty-five years of age and had been employed in the Coal Creek mines for some time. He has two brothers in this city who are also miners. An inquest was held on Wednesday but was adjourned until next week in order that the crew of the train that ran over (_______) might be secured as witnesses. N. and C. P. R. track, attempted to board a passing freight, but in doing so he missed his footing and rolling under the wheels, had both legs severed from his body. The funeral took place at 9:30 this morning from the Catholic church, of which the deceased was a communicant, the body being followed to its last resting place by a large contingent of his fellow workers as a token of the respect in which he was held.
