The Festival of Trees (currently going on at the Cobb Galleria thru January 1) ... remember it was downtown and lots for kids to do - wander thru a Christmas tree wonderland, arts & crafts, hot chocolate, Santa ... now that was a good time. Also my daughter, back in the 90s, went to a huge arts & crafts event at the Merchandise Mart (once with Girl Scouts, once with myself and her brother). 20 or 30 different craft stations, including a tiny gingerbread house, for a small fee. It was awesome - I still use some of the things they created in decorating for Christmas :)
