The Fight Verses The Struggle Let me introduce myself. You dont know me yet, but by the time you do, you will wish we had never met. I will take your memory; I will take your speech; I will make you see, hear, horrible things; You will be no longer be able to eat; You will be no longer be able to sleep; You will be no longer be able to breathe. I will play with your heart, and just for fun, I may even make it stop. Your arms and legs will be at my command, and these are just a few things I can do. You will be mine, all mine. Let me introduce myself, my name is Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis. This is just a piece of a poem my father has showed me and explains a rare illness people can get. It is caused by an autoimmune reaction primarily against the NRI subunit of the Glutamate/Glycine NMDA receptor. This disease was recognized in 2007. Today is March 19, 2014. My name is Cheyenne Rose Jackson, I am about to tell a story about myself, who had to fight the battles of having Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis. Before I continue on about my illness, I would like to take the chance and tell you about myself as an ordinary individual, before the disease attacked me. I was 18 years old, graduated class of 2013 of Cesar Chavez High School. I held a position on our Youth council as a district representative for the Akimel Oodham Pee Posh Youth Council for my Community , Gila River. I had a very high passion for dancing, traditional, and Vailas. I spent most of my time with my cousin, who I which was very close to, she has experienced this journey through thick and thin with me as I continue to tell. I had a wonderful boyfriend I can share anything with, he was reliable when I needed a ear to tell things to. On the other hand I carried my family, which I held close and dear to me. They were like my spine in my body, my heart and soul. After graduation, in May, I was preparing to attend Mesa Community College for the Fall semester. I had everything together, and ready to go. I was so excited to get the show on the road. One of the main things I was looking forward to was the National UNITY conference I would attend every summer, which would be in California that summer. I was so stoked to attend, after that conference, our reservation would have our own youth conference which I would facilitate for. All these events were coming so quickly I almost forgot about my Graduation Dance, held on June 29th 2013. I chose my favorite band D Faktion Nyne everything was planned and set to go. Now here hits the struggle. June 26th 2013, it was just an ordinary day I woke up, my aunt took me and my cousin to get my papers from MCC to take to the tribe so I can get my scholarship money for school and after I visited the Sunna Wagon for a bite to eat. As the day went on it was normal to me. The night time came ; I was sitting in my living room watching tv with my younger sibling. I started to feel a bit sick and dizziness in my head. I immediately called for help as I fell to the couch, where I became unconscious. Minutes later I woke up scared and cold in an ambulance, where I was being treated by the paramedics. I was strapped down to a stretcher. I constantly and quickly asked what had happened. The paramedics said I had a seizure but I will be treated at Chandler Regional Hospital. The doctors there said I was dehydrated, and the summer heat must have gotten to me. So they kept me for a night or two. While at the hospital I remember the food, it wasnt so good. The nurses were nice as can be, my dad had brung my laptop so I can finish my class schedule for school. Soon I was to be discharged from Chandler Regional. Thank God I thought, finally I could go home with little to no worries. On my way home I stopped at Wendys to grab some food. As far as that, which was at the end of June I rarely remember a THING.
