The Flashback Friday photo this week shows track sprinter Curt Harnett in action at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, B.C., where he won silver. Harnett’s long career saw him win a silver medal in the 1984 Olympics and bronze in both the 1992 and 1996 Games, and the world record he set in 1995 for the flying 200m time trial stood for 11 years. But at home he might be best remembered as one of Canadian cycling’s first superstars, featuring in television commercials and, after retiring from competition, working as a commentator.
