The Foreign Affairs Ministry of Pakistan angrily reacted towards the remarks of Rangin Dadfar Spanta, the national security adviser to president Hamid Karzai. Spanta described Islamabad as the main “obstacle” to the Afghan peace process with the Taliban group, besides blaming Pakistan for killing innocent Afghans in cross-border shelling and supporting the militant groups in Afghanistan. However, the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Pakistan following a statement said Friday that Islamabad supports peace in Afghanistan and backs an Afghan-led, Afghan-owned peace process. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Tasnim Aslam following the statement, said that comments by the Afghan official were both regrettable and out of sync with the constructive spirit between the two countries. Aslam further added that Pakistan in its part has made concrete efforts to facilitate the Afghan peace process with the Taliban group. she pointed towards the latest effort as recent as January 27, 2014, when Pakistan and the United States jointly reiterated calls on Afghan Taliban to join the peace process and enter into dialogue with the Afghan government. “Itself a major victim of terrorism, Pakistan has been in the forefront of international efforts to combat extremism and terrorism. Any view purporting to project Pakistan in a contrary light is removed from reality,” Aslam quoted in the statement said. Khaama Press
