The Four Levels of Learning 1. Unconscious Incompetence – you don’t even know that you don’t know this 2. Conscious incompetence - you do know that you don’t know this 3. Conscious competence – you do know how to do this, but you have to think about it in order to do it right. 4. Unconscious competence – you are so good at this that you do it without thinking Example: 1. An infant does not know that he/she can not tie their shoes, 2. later they realize they do not know how, 3. they learn how but have to really concentrate on how to tie their shoes, 4. they tie their shoes with speed, accuracy and without even thinking about it.
