The Franciscan Friars of the Renewal had the same joyful spirit. In Vienna one of the young guys said with a solemn face, We walk down the streets in the Bronx and the people say, Good morning Father. Good morning Brother. When we walk down the street in Lower Manhattan the rich people look at us suspiciously and avoid our eyes. Sometimes they come up and offer us money and do you know what we say? The audience was spellbound. We say, Keep your filthy money and go to hell. There was an audible gasp. Then the young friar laughed and said, No. We take the money. Laughter, and with perfect timing, And we invite them to a Bible study.”
