The Fukushima nuclear reactor, already massively damaged in the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami, suffered another large earthquake yesterday. Soon a dangerous operation is planned to make safer the site, but it has substantial risk. The study of existential risk is becoming quite a thing, the number of ways we could screw up ourselves, or be screwed up by things out of our control is huge. We live on the edge of an abyss that we conveniently put to the back of our minds.
