The Gay Straight Alliance at Newtown High School is doing a Sock Drive fundraiser for the benefit of the Ali Forney Center, a homeless shelter for LGBT youth in New York City. To quote our Club President, One of our greatest goals this year is giving back. Many of our members find ourselves privileged, and recognize that during the holiday season, not everyone lives in as much comfort as we do. We hope to be able to add just a little comfort to the lives of LGBT youth at the Ali Forney Center during the holidays. While socks may lack the appeal of toys or other holiday items, they are urgently needed since multiple layers are used to reinforce poor footwear, act as gloves, and provide additional warmth and protection from the elements. The Sock Drive runs from December 9th to the 19th. Boxes labeled Ali Forney Center have been placed in each advisory. We request new socks only, please. Thank you for donating to an important cause!
