The Gazette missed us again... Here is what should have been published! U10s & U14s Grand Final bound The 12s and 15s went down bravely in the grand final qualifiers over the weekend, leaving the u10s and u14s fired up and ready to contest Grand Finals next week. U12s The 12s faced off against the undefeated Chatswood at Rooty Hill on Sunday. Anticipating a tough game, several of our forwards were given specific roles to shut down their opposite numbers who ran riot when given space. Led by captain Adamo Cantarella, the 12s showed promise early camped in their opponents 22 starving them of possession. Making Chatswood do little but defend in the heat was part of the Bluey’s game plan. There was no reward for their domination and Chatswood were soon able to put points on with their limited possession. Chatswood finished the half up 14-0. The coaches at half time and begged the backs to find the open side in attack and defence. Damian Doig got an early mark after a head knock and the void at hooker was filled more than adequately by Ky Paul and Alessio Felli.Blue Mountains had the momentum again with ten minutes to play with a break from Rory Fletcher who was coathangered short of the line. The following penalty saw halfback Eoin Klaassen tap and go himself to score out wide. Josh Archer calmly added the conversion and the Blueys were right back in it. Although they won the second half, unfortunately time would be the enemy on the day and the 12s season finished with a courageous 19-7 defeat. U15 V Burraneer Final, Loss 12-24 Our gateway to the Grand Final arrived as we travelled to Maroubra to play Burraneer. Bailey Borg and Ethan Stein were late withdrawals but everyone else was fired up. We were unlucky to have a kick charged down leading to their first try after 2 minutes but some excellent pressure by Leif Ruttley after a scrum had him steal 50 metres and go so close to a try before Jared Cremona crashed over out wide after a pick and drive. Doug Rogers missed the conversion by centimetres. There was some willing battles in the forwards as Doug Good, Connor McCarthur, Connor New, Jayden Laney, Billy Kemp and Logan Flowers pulled off some hard tackles but standout in that department was Jared Cremona. Mitchell Hampson was getting to the breakdown and doing some excellent pilfering and Fergus Ryan worked well with Luke Ruttley to give our forward pack power. However, after some sustained defence on our part, Burraneer were able to crash over out wide. A few minutes after that try, we were coming out of our half when Doug Rogers sent an awkward kick towards their fullback, it bounced against his knees and came back 20 metres into the arms of an oncoming Jordan Carpenter who had to step and swerve before running away to score. 12-12 at half-time. Second half handling let us down as we reasserted our control over the lineouts but gave up field position and ball control, inviting Burraneer into our half. Our backs threw everything at them and the efforts of Xavier Walsh, Jared Keehan, Nick Carbines, Lewis Hughes and Mitchell Duncan were extraordinary but all to no avail as Burraneer pulled away to a 24-12 victory. All of the parents were glowing of the heart and effort shown by the boys throughout the season as we moved from E Division in 2012 to B Division in 2013 where we can hold our heads up high as we finished in third place.
