The Gospel-the Foundation of Our Salvation 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 - TopicsExpress

The Gospel-the Foundation of Our Salvation 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 What does the sinner need to hear in order to be save from his sin and assured of eternal life? The facts of the gospel message are clear: Christ died for our sins; He was buried (He actually died); He rose again the third day, and all of this was as the Scriptures had prophetically declared. We know that there is no other gospel and that what is preached so often, even in our day, is a spurious gospel, mingling grace and works. It is crucial that we know what the true message entails! Three simple statements contain the heart of the true gospel which Paul preached. The first: Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures. This statement was delivered...first of all-an expression denoting not first in point of time but first in divine importance. The gospel is first in pointing to Christ: the simple, down-to-earth gospel, not the wisdom of men (2:1). Paul preached Christ crucified (1:23), who died as a sacrifice to make atonement for our sins (Heb.5:1-3; 7:27; 10:12) and bore our sins in His own body upon the cross (1 Pet.2:24). Second, He was buried (v.4)-this fact being essential to the doctrine of His bodily resurrection. The fact of death and burial points to a condition: dead, buried. Oh, but thank God He rose again the third day according to the scriptures (v.4; Matt.12:38-42) and was seen (vv.5-8) and now ever lives as our Intercessor and Mediator (Heb.1:1-3; 7:25; 1 Tim.2:5-6). We have only one message to preach, only one gospel to be believed: the good news that Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose-all in accordance with the Scriptures. Believe on Him today and share this glorious gospel with others!
