The Governor that Rivers People need: For nearly 7 years now, - TopicsExpress

The Governor that Rivers People need: For nearly 7 years now, loquaciousness, grandiloquency and exellency of speech have been the order of the day in Rivers State. If only the much talk, translated to meaningful projects like the loquacious Akpabio did for the Akwaibomites, we wouldnt have given a hoot. As the 2015 elections draw closer, Im very sure Rivers people would not be needing a loquacious and grandiloquent Governor, but one who will talk less, quarrel less or even a dumb that will DO more. I also think Rivers people may not necessarily care about where the Governor comes from, provided he/she would be fair enough to run an all-inclusive government; where all interests would be protected. This is because recent happenings have shown that, the mere fact that the Governor is your kinsman is not a guarantee that your interest as a tribe or an individual would be protected. For example, our Ikwere Governor successfully made his Ogoni and Opobo friend billionaires and NOT his Ikwere brothers. Im sure, the Ikweres will agree with me on this. I also think Rivers people would be asking for a Governor who would understand the difference between projects; that have direct bearing on the people and a political project to gratify his political cronies and Yoruba in-laws. For example some of Rotimis primary schools are empty and have become an abode for reptiles, rodents and birds. Im sure Khana people will be asking for a Governor who understands that a densely populated Khana LGA will require more schools, a Garri and Cassava chips Processing Plant for export. Im sure Bonny people would be asking for a Governor who will understand that Bonny needs a passable jetty, an efficient transportation system than proliferation of uncompleted primary schools, especially as Bonny pupils have not been learning under trees before this time. Im sure Rivers people would not want to repeat the mistake of giving someone a monorail in place of portable water. Im sure Port-Harcourt city would be asking for a Governor who would give them a mechanized/state of the art drainage system and not a shallow gutter that will over flow with mere passage of urine. Im sure that the Andonis would be asking for a Governor who will give them a fishing company, equipped with trawlers and cold rooms. Im also sure, the Ikweres and Kalabaris would be asking for a Governor that will give them a visible trans-kalabari road, cottage industries and not one that would bastardize their traditional institutions. To this end, the PDP in Rivers State have decided to base its manifesto on a needs assessment of the 23 LGAs and non indigenous communities resident in Rivers State. And in no distant time, a committee would be set-up in all the LGAs that will consist of representatives from 1. Community Heads 2. Youth organizations 3. Civil Society Organizations 4. Market unions 5. Transport Unions 6. Stakeholders of Parties Etc to articulate their needs and transmit same to the leadership of the Party. This document will serve as the PDP manifesto and would be referred to as the Rivers document which would be handed to the PDP standard bearer that can WIN election and NOT the one that can contest election in 2015. Say No to APC!
