The Head of Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Sierra Leone Jean- Pierre Reymondet-Commoy has bid farewell after his four years active work in the country. During his farewell dinner over the weekend, the Ambassador said during his stay in the country, he has visited lot of places and “and lot of privilege to have been here. “I have felt here the beauty of Africa, felt the sense of hospitality as well as tradition of measure, humility, frugality and solidarity which express more than anywhere the dignity of men, women and children who are facing often natural and social conditions,” he said. Reymondet-Commoy maintained that the country is faced with some challenges and that “Sierra Leone is confronted with a lot of challenges with its development because of the history the country needs infrastructure, needs service delivery and certainly some skills and the country has to improve all of this. “ He stated that to confront all these development challenges “because lot of the populations live in poverty and those are the many challenges in the development of Sierra Leone,.” But I must say it has been very rewarding to work in Sierra Leone because we feel a lot of people, a lot of institution, civil society very much engaged in promoting the development of the country, that’s why I say working here has been rewarding. And we feel that our cooperation here has been quite successful, has had a good impact and that’s why we will certainly continue to cooperate with Sierra Leone which is a close partner to the EU. ” From Sierra Leone, Jean- Pierre is going to continue his good work in the Central African Republic, in mid September hoping that “my mission there will be successful just as in Sierra Leone and that I will also make strong friends there as I did here.” Highlighting some of the success made by the Delegation he said the EU is not only engage in building roads, but that they have been engaged with the government in the area of health, decentralization, governance, public service reform, trade promotion and support to civil servic
