The High Priestess of Poes Garden As i jockeyed with the supporters of the AIADMK to catch a glimpse of Dr.Jayalalithaa , it was more than a contest for a glimpse . I could actually feel the excitement combined with the sense of contentment that the lady was finally back to her empire , to perch herself on the theocratic throne . Washed on one side by the marina , and sprinkled from above by the incessant downpour , a wet chennai witnessed the arrival of the Empress , a wounded tigress coming back to prowl . The growl was missing , and i was a trifle disappointed with that , but perhaps the tigress has chosen to take the slow steps before making the pouncing leap . People watching her return from across the roads , streets , colonnaded walkways of the lavish hotels bordering the road , peeping from terraces , from balconies from every space that could convert into a viewpoint . The abject poor living in squalid slums gathered to welcome her , rubbing shoulders with their more fortunate fellow countrymen , all jostling to welcome their leader , neatly displaying the broader contours of her support base . In low life and high , she was all that mattered . Compared to earlier experiences , there were relatively few restraints by the police , people were able to surge to her vehicle , get a closer look , some could even touch the vehicle , while others resorted to throwing flowers , jasmine and marigold covered the windshield . The welcome was rousing and fitting indeed . It made me wonder as to how she manages to stimulate so much affection and keep it potent , through thick and thin , especially since she is accused by her detractors of sequestering herself from the common man . But the adulation and frenzy speak otherwise ..... The lady took it all with an imperious glance , as I looked on with awe . She made it known with her glance that the phoenix is all set to rise once again from the ashes to conquer .... make way for the tigress .... the very majestic Dr. Jayalalithaa
