The Hillsborough inquests Timeline. 96 children, women, and men died in the Hillsborough Day one 31.3.14. The process of selecting the jurors for the inquests started. The seven women and four men making up the jury were selected from a panel of 150 potential jurors. Day two The names of the 96 people who died in the disaster were read out as the jury was sworn in. Lord Justice Goldring opened the inquests by setting out what had happened on the day of the disaster and told jurors that the families were still angry and distressed at the way their loved ones had been treated. The role of match commander David Duckenfield was also thrust into the spotlight. Day three The jury was told it would have to consider why large numbers of police officers’ accounts of the day of the disaster were amended. Coroner Lord Justice Goldring also made clear the process would not be using the controversial 3.15pm cut off time for evidence. We shall not be following that course, he said. Day four - personal portraits The inquests heard nine moving personal portraits of people who died at Hillsborough. Family statements for Arthur Horrocks, Patrick Thompson, Christine Jones, Ian Whelan, Roy Pemberton, Paula Smith, Marian McCabe, Tracey Cox, Richard Jones were read out. Day five - personal portraits The painful process of reading out personal portraits continued in Warrington. Family statements for brothers Kevin and Christopher Traynor, Steven Brown, Henry Rogers, Eric Hankin, Gary Collins, Francis McAllister, Nicholas Joynes, and John Jack Anderson were read out. Day six - personal portraits The inquests heard the third day of personal portraits from the families who lost loved ones at Hillsborough. Ten portraits were read out today for Kevin Williams, Stephen Copoc, Gary Harrison, Gary Jones, Carl Rimmer, Gerard Baron, David Mather, Barry Glover, Colin Wafer, Eric Hankin. Day seven - personal portraits Personal statements to nine more of the Hillsborough victims were read at the inquests today. On the fourth day of the personal portraits from the inquests, tributes were read to Alan McGlone, Andrew Brookes, Carl and Nicholas Hewitt, Andrew Sefton, David Birtle, Paul Brady, Stuart Thompson, and Joseph Clark. Day eight - personal portraits Ten more of the moving personal statements were read out at the Warrington hearing. Tributes to sisters Sarah and Vicki Hicks, Simon Bell, Peter Thompson, Derrick Godwin, Lee Nicol, Graham Wright, John McBrien, Colin Ashcroft, and Gerard Baron were read to the jury. The hearings adjourned for a week for families to mark the 25th anniversary of the disaster on April 15. The inquests resume on April 22. Day nine - personal portraits The inquests resumed after a week-long break for the 25th anniversary of the disaster. Personal statements for nine victims were read out at the Warrington hearing. Tributes were given for Ray Chapman, Thomas Steven Fox, Philip Hammond, Vincent Fitzsimmons, Adam Spearritt, Eric Hughes, David Thomas, David Rimmer, and Carl Brown. Day ten - personal portraits The inquests heard tributes to the youngest victim of the Hillsborough disaster 10-year-old cousin of Steven Gerrard, Jon-Paul Gilhooley. His family read out a personal portrait to Jon-Paul, and the court also heard accounts of eight other victims during the days hearing. Tributes were paid to father and son Thomas Howard senior and Thomas Howard junior, Inger Shah, Peter McDonnell, Vincent Fitzsimmons, Roy Hamilton, Christopher Edwards, and Barry Bennett. Day 11 - personal portraits The Hillsborough inquests heard emotional tributes including to four teenagers and a dad-of-four who lost their lives. On the 11th day of the inquests family statements for Jonathon Owens, Christopher Devonside, Paul Carlile, Stephen Harrison, Joseph McCarthy, Paul Clark, Anthony Kelly, and Martin Wild were read out. Day 12 - personal portraits Margaret Aspinall, chair of the Hillsborough Family Support Group, was among the family members reading personal statements for their loved ones in court today. She paid tribute to son James, who was among 12 victims remembered in todays hearing. Testimonials were also given for Gary Church, Paul Hewiston, Peter Harrison, Graham Roberts, Michael Kelly, Paul Murray, Kevin Tyrrell, Henry Burke, Philip Steele, Peter Burkett, and David Benson. Day 13 - personal portraits It was another emotional day at the inquests as families continued to tell the juries of loved ones they lost in the disaster. The 10 statements read today also included one from the family of Tony Bland, who died four years after the disaster after he was left in a coma. Tributes were also given for Stephen ONeill, David Hawley, James Hennessey, James Delaney, Brian Matthews, Kester Ball, Carl Lewis, Gordon Horn, and Alan Johnston.
