The Honorable Amilcar Cabral I will first share the ideology of Our Brother Amilcar Cabral who is with the Ancestors now for the Liberation Struggle of the African Diaspora, then state a little of whom he was and then leave the rest for you to research. You can start your research with purchasing and viewing the DVD documentaries entitled “African Leaders Amilcar Cabral & Frantz Fanon” from ArtMattan Productons , Tel: (212) 864-1760 / AfricanDiasporaDVDinfo@africanfilm. As stated by family and comrades of Cabral, he thought that independence wasn’t only political, it was much more cultural. Culture was a fundamental point in his liberation movement. In Cabral’s own words he stated “The popular masses are the bearers of culture and at the same time, the only entity truly capable of preserving and creating culture is the making of history.” One of Cabral’s comrades stated that, “there is an important aspect or word that expresses [Cabral’s] preoccupation and that is the Re-Africanization of the Soul.” He also stated that “at that time, African culture wasn’t given any consideration. It was during the times of racism & discrimination, it was the times of superiority and inferiority complexes it was the times of very strong ethnic or euro centrism and so it was necessary to act in favor of strengthening African culture.” Cabral also stated “that in Africa one doesn’t need to be a revolutionary, in Africa the only thing one needs to be is a revolutionary that is honest.” One of his comrades stated Cabral was especially interested in the well being of others. My people shall perish for the lack of vision. Cabral & other African Leaders during colonial times organized, mobilized and fought wars and were successful in liberating their countries. We should study the lives & strategies of these great African Leaders that liberated their countries and eat the meat and spit out the bones. In other words take with us what is relevant /useful today from their past strategies and SECRETLY devise and build our own. Cabral formed a political party on behalf of The People and formatted a platform of issues. Cabral took those issues to the colonial power of CapeVert & Guinea, which was Portugal to discuss and negotiate terms. Portugal didn’t want to negotiate with anyone. Portugal wanted to maintain its empire and created ideology. The Portuguese colonial ideology was a multi-continental Portugal, where other countries were Portuguese provinces. Cabral and other comrades in his circle “reached the only solution for the liberation of Guinea and Cape Vert was armed struggle. But armed struggle, how? Armed struggle must be organized. In the first place, we needed people that were aware of things and prepared to sacrifice their lives, if necessary for the advancement of the fight. Secondly, we needed, shall we say, all means …that is truly a war. The struggle must have leadership that has a high technical and scientific capacity and have in its circle a hierarchy of leaders that are highly skilled and know how to mobilize some of the masses.” In the beginning of the documentary, a grammar school teacher from CapeVert is teaching her students about Cabral. She tells the class that” in today’s class we will talk about a very important person in the history of Cape Vert of Africa and of the whole world. We are going to talk about Amilcar Cabral, the man that gave his life for our freedom. He was a brave man. If it weren’t for him we wouldn’t be free and independent. He was born in Guinea, studied in Cape Vert. His parents were from Cape Vert. He was always a distinguished by his intelligence and by his talent. Amilcar Cabral was a great man that we should always honor and never forget.” Cabral after completing grade school studied Agronomy in Lisbon, Portugal. Agronomy is the science and technology of producing and using plants for food, fuel, fiber and land reclamation. Agronomy encompasses work in the areas of plant genetics, plant physiology, meteorology and soil science. Cabral understood the importance of agriculture for nourishment of our bodies and its’ use for other resources. All that stuff that Our People is writing on facebook on a daily and consistent basis would come to a halt, if We do not Do For Self in Feeding Ourselves. We need to grow our own food or know someone directly that is farming food, that is a subject for another day. On September 19, 1956 Cabral promotes the creation PAI later PAIGL, The African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Vert. Dr. Khallid once stated once we were brought here [Amerikkka] we were robbed our names, our religion, our culture, our God and many of Us by the way we act we even lost our minds. It is time for Us to be renewed by the transformation of Our Minds in perfecting our culture, reclaiming our history and elevating on our spiritual paths using the percepts of our Ancestors before, during and after the slave ships. ChairmanFred Hampton Jr.. of the Prisoners of Conscience Committee devised a Code of Culture that We all should follow. What is Culture? It is a way of life. It is the cornerstone of civilizations; empires; kingdoms; nations; communities; families and individuals. Culture encompasses art, sciences, politics, religion, economies and other customs & practices. Let Us look to Our Roots & Traditions as We Move Forward as a People. Ase’(Spiritual Power/So Shall It Be)!
