The Honourable Railway Minister of India Rail Bhavan,. New Delhi Respected sir, Thanks to Indian railways’ kind gesture to grant concessions in railway tickets upto 50 percent for senior citizens, the number of elderly travelers has dramatically gone up. More aged people are now on the move, taking advantage of the concessional fares. May we therefore take this opportunity to suggest to you to introduce in all trains, a special compartment or bogie, particularly in the long-distance trains, for the senior citizens, with structural changes aimed at safety and convenience of the elderly people. This may not mean much loss to the exchequer but in terms of creating conditions favourable for the ageing population, it will be a meaningful gesture, and might even win you some extra votes. On my journeys across India, I have found elderly people struggling to climb up or get down from their berths. The toilets too could be suitably designed to take care of the peculiar needs of the seniors. We are confident our competent railway engineers can come up with better designs. Take the challenge.. With warm regards Yours sincerely Brij Khandelwal Braj Mandal Heritage Conservation Society Goverdhan Hotel, Delhi Gate, Agra-2
