The Hudson Yacht Club Hudson Is a town of volunteers and people that care about their small town community. Nothing demonstrates this more than the Hudson Yacht Club. Great events often have humble beginnings and so it was with the establishment of the Hudson Yacht Club. Originally known as the Hudson Heights Boating Club, it started at a simple canoe shed and small dock out behind Mullan’s General store. Growing interest caused it to be moved In 1907 to Wharf Road and in 1909 the first club –house was built at a cost of $1200. It was located right next to the Wilson Company Icehouse , a company that supplied most of the iceboxes ( Now called refrigerators) throughout Montreal. In 1913 the Hudson Boating Club was re-christened the Hudson Hudson Yacht Club with club fees of $5 single, Families of three $12 and each additional family member costing $2. Disaster struck in the form of a lightning strike in 1917 burning down both the club house and the ice houses. In 1918 a new clubhouse was built. Unfortunately lightning sometimes does strike twice. On October 17,1934 sparks from a locomotive carrying ice from the Wilson Company started a fire destroying, once again, the ice house and the clubhouse. A new clubhouse was built on newly acquired land ( McNaughton’s point) at a cost of $7500. From its simple beginnings the Hudson Yacht has gone on to host Labor Day Regatta’s, a number of boating and water events, Friday night BBQ’s, concerts, community events and numerous family events. It can also boast of winning a long list of club trophies and helping with the encouragement and development of a long list of Champions. The Hudson Yacht Club is all about family, community and excellence.
