The Hunter and the Bear There once was man that went out and - TopicsExpress

The Hunter and the Bear There once was man that went out and bought himself a brand new hunting rifle. It was the latest greatest rifle and was the fulfilment of dream he’d had for years. He had dreamed of going out bear hunting, finding and killing the biggest grizzly bear he could find. That way he could skin the bear and have himself a brand new grizzly bear coat. He knew that with his new coat, he would be the envy of all his friends. So he went out into the woods, and low and behold, he came upon a huge grizzly bear. This bear was the biggest bear he had ever seen. He raised his gun to his shoulder, took aim, and was just about ready to shoot when the bear shouted, “Hold on here. Isn’t this a little drastic? What exactly is it that you want?” The hunter said, “I want a new bear skin coat.” The bear then said, “All I want is a full stomach. How about we come to a compromise here?” So they compromised and both got what they wanted. The bear got a full stomach and the hunter got a new bear skin coat. The moral of this story is that many times when we compromise, we lose. How many of us have chosen to compromise our standards and accept something that we know is wrong, just because it’s popular. How many of us give in to peer pressure, and do something that goes against everything we believe, just because we don’t want to be seen as different? How many of us want to fit in with the popular crowd but know that to do so, we have to do things and live our lives in ways that are contrary to what we know to be right? There is a scripture that I love that says it all. Adam fell that man might be. Men are that the might have joy. The father of all lies knows the scriptures just as good or better than we do. He even quotes those scriptures, with a little earthly wisdom mixed in. He will be the first to quote this very same scripture, but with one word changed. Adam fell that man might be. Men are that they might have FUN. He then tells us, hey, the scriptures tell us right there in black and white that we are supposed to have fun. If you compromise and do what I suggest, you will always have fun. There’s a big difference between fun and joy. Fun is a temporary sensation that brings immediate satisfaction, but many times can spawn a lifetime of regret. Joy is a long term sensation that will bring happiness to you throughout your life. May we all learn from the lesson of the hunter and realize that when it comes to our sense of self worth and eternal happiness, compromise will only bring heartache and sorrow. No bear skin coat is worth the price we will have to pay for a lifetime of misery.
