The IRS is a complete JOKE! Had to go there a few months ago; the location on I-45 south. Over the phone they explained what I needed to bring in. However, when I got to the very same office that I spoke to over the phone, they said that what I was told was not accurate. The IRS agent then asked me where out of the country my friend was, and I asked what that had to do with anything. The agent asked again, in a more demanding tone, and not raising my voice I said, I do not have to tell you that; its none of your business. The agent got aggravated because I wouldnt comply and answer his question. I then politely and quietly asked to speak to his supervisor...his reply was a bit louder, Youll have to answer my question first. The security guard stepped forward and asked the IRS employee if there was a problem. Before the IRS employee said anything, I said, No and yes. There is no problem here yet there is. I called to ask what I needed to bring here, and now I am being told it was not what I needed. This tax-paid employee is asking me, his employer questions that are none of his business or concern and are not relative to helping me. I asked to speak to his supervisor, and I have every right to request it. What is wrong here is that the IRS is run with complete incompetence. What further exacerbates it is that you would walk over here to ask him, the one who is losing control, if there is a problem even though it is obvious I am neither being rude or out of control yet he is. The citizens in line had become completely silent. Once more, I politely said, Again, I am requesting to speak with his supervisor or any supervisor available. It is my right. I turned from the security guard to the agent, cocked my head a bit to the right and just starred at the agent as if to inquire, Well? The security guard stepped a little backward. After a couple minutes a person calling themselves a supervisor came forward. I explained why I was there and that I was being grilled by the agent to tell him where out of the country my friend was. The supervisor cut a sharp look at the agent and said, You are not allowed to ask that! I apologize maam. Only then did teh security guard return to his other post position. How ridiculous is it that the agent feels empowered to hold a citizen hostage over personal information, and even more ridiculous that the IRS security guard assumed that I was causing a disturbance when in fact it was the incompetent IRS agent?! I have zero doubt that had I raised my voice or acted with the slightest agitation, that IRS security guard was about to handcuff me! No. I never did resolve what I had originally went to the IRS office about. That took another month, several phone calls, and paying a tax consultant a fee to do what wasnt even required by tax laws just to get the IRS to back off. I state again, the IRS is out of control and completely incompetent. Worse still, they are now in charge of your health care!
