The IWT recently called for the resignation of Minister Jimmy Deenihan on the grounds that he is not a suitable guardian of our Heritage. He has consistently shown an unwillingness to stand up for conservation. The government now plans to open up protected areas for new turf-cutting. “Biodiversity provides us with food, clean water, building materials and other essentials that we simply cannot live without. It underpins vital economic sectors such as agriculture and tourism. For those reasons alone we should strive to protect what we have”.
