The Illinois General Assembly reconvenes next week and the vote - TopicsExpress

The Illinois General Assembly reconvenes next week and the vote whether to Save The Annual Township Meeting (HB2454) is on the docket for Tuesday October 22, so time is of the essence. Please call your legislators. If the Illinois House and Senate is successful in overriding Governor Quinn’s amendatory veto of HB2454, they will stop citizens from in the future placing on the ballot advisory public questions, such as the Move to Amend question, at their Annual Township Meeting. HB2454 would drastically reduce the ability of citizens to use the simplest way to get a referendum on the ballot - through a procedure at township annual meetings. At the township annual meeting, questions can be added to the ballot by a small group of voters instead of by petition, a process that can be expensive and burdensome. Please Join this event if you only have time to call your state senator and representative once, but please consider calling every day until we are successful in stopping the veto override! Action Steps: First, call and email Your Illinois State Senator and Representative before Tuesday (see event page, https://facebook/events/399348086861446, for details on how to obtain contact info for your State Senator and Represenatative) and insist that they Vote to Accept the Governor’s Amendatory Veto of HB2454 – The Bill to Block Citizens from Placing Substantive Advisory Questions on the Ballot at Annual Township Meetings. Tell them this bill threatens our democracy. Second, call and e-mail the President of the Illinois Senate with the same message. His contact details are: John Cullerton john@senatorcullerton Springfield office 217-782-2728 Chicago office 773-883-0770 Third, forward this to your contacts in other parts of Illinois.
