The Illinois State Board of Education is considering a proposal - TopicsExpress

The Illinois State Board of Education is considering a proposal that will eliminate class size limits for students with disabilities. A decision could come as early as Wednesday. This proposal is about money - not about whats in the best interest of kids. It could lead to staffing cuts across the state for teachers and specialists who work with students with a variety of special needs. It could also lead to larger class sizes and specifically, larger numbers of students with identified disabilities in the regular classroom without the appropriate level of support and resources for students. Our kids and teachers will suffer if this proposal becomes a reality. Smaller districts across the state will be particularly more vulnerable to the impact of less funding from the state to support our most neediest students. The ISBE needs to hear from parents, teachers, and community members. Please use the link below to send an email message telling the ISBE to put kids first. You can use the sample email message or make it more personal. It will only take 2-3 minutes and will go directly to the appropriate elected officials. Our kids need all of us to be their advocates. Feel free to share this post on your own Facebook pages as well.
