The JOURNEY - Hebrews 6:11-12 - Diligence - Diligence is defined - TopicsExpress

The JOURNEY - Hebrews 6:11-12 - Diligence - Diligence is defined by the constant and earnest effort given to accomplish what is undertaken or the degree of care and caution expected of a person. The Message puts it like this: And now I want each of you to extend that same intensity toward a full-bodied hope, and keep at it till the finish. Dont drag your feet. Be like those who stay the course with committed faith and then get everything promised to them. He uses phrases like same intensity and Dont drag your feet to describe diligence. The picture is like starting a project and giving it your attention until its finished. I know that weve never slacked in that area. LOL! Ive had several projects that Ive started at the same time and with much and strong encouragement from Sandy I had to finish what I had already started before I started another one; if you get where I am coming from. Weve all had moments where we didnt give attention to something that we really needed to. We didnt give it our whole hearted effort until the end. We were nearing the end and didnt started pulling back a some. We started losing our intensity or dragging our feet or losing our commitment to the project. Although Ive had some home projects like this, Im generally been pretty diligent to finish what I start. Weve built 3 houses over the history of our marriage and I will have to say that the first almost killed me. I was working a full time job, was youth pastor to a group of 60 teens at a time when we had two small kids. I went in at 6am and when I got off at 2:30 in the afternoon Sandy would have dinner ready and I would drive almost 30 minutes to work on our house until 11 or 12 that night. This went on for 9 months and I thought at times it would kill me. So when we I talked of building our own home again she was not as excited but when we did, this time it only took about 7 months. The third time we built it only 6 months. What was the key? Diligence. Was it fun hanging dry wall, pulling wire and laying floor? Yes and No but more No. LOL! But we had to and was determined to. The times when one of us would become discouraged over the process the other would encourage. We stayed the course until the end. Move in day. Thats what the writer is saying. Stay the course, dont give up, keep the fire and finish string until move in day. When you find yourself dragging your feet, remember the hope youve been given and keep strong it until you reach the finish line and move in.
