The Jammu and Kashmir government Wednesday suspended the drug license of some of the biggest chemist shops in summer capital after an enforcement team found that the chemists were selling flood-hit commodities, an official said. While inspecting various food establishments including provisional stores and medical shops, Health Officer Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Dr Rubeena Shaheen along with her team of food safety officers inspected Bindroo Medicate in Magarmal Bagh. Public Relation Officer SMC, Masrat Yosuf said the owner was caught red handed selling flood affected medicines and other eatables. “Dr Rubeena on spot suspended the food license of the owner and has sealed the shop. Most of the medicines including baby food and other eatables of the store were found flood affected,” she said. Dr Runbeena said that she informed the Drug Controller about the issue “who rushed to the spot and got his drug license suspended.” “We warn all the food business operators including pharmaceuticals to refrain from selling of any kind of flood affected daily essentials otherwise stern action will be taken against them,” she said. It was found that the establishments namely Bindroo Brothers and Angel Pharmacy, both at opposite Iqbal Park, Owais Medicate, Valley Medicate, International Medicate and Friends Medicate at Karan Nagar indulged in unethical trade practices by displaying flood hit commodities for sale, an official of the Drug Control told Kashmir Dispatch. The establishments were forced to shut their operations forthwith till such time a satisfactory compliance report with respect to their hygienic condition and good trade practices is furnished by Empowered Inspectorate staff, he added. The traders have been warned of strict administrative action if anyone is found indulging in such practices.
