The Jeremiah Fryar Home at the foot of Lookout Mountain circa. 1863. This is a snapshot from the mural, Battle Above the Clouds, at Point Park on Lookout Mountain. The home lay in the direct line of assault of Federal forces in their assault on the heights above. Jeremiah Fryar owned 5000 acres in and around the Lookout Valley, and, many slaves. Jeremiah was also my 3rd great grandfather. He had numerous sons who served in the Confederate Army...... Along with this house, the Cravens house on the slope and slightly North of the Fryars, was also in the line of assault. Both houses somehow survived the battle. The Cravens house is part of the battlefield today, but the Fryar house and farm are long gone, lost to the war and its aftermath and the area today is the town area of St. Elmo. Note the Federal Picket line in the very yard of the home.....
