The Junior Racing Team turned out in force today for the Sean Nolan GP in Navan with five team members competing in two age groups and all of them in the prizes. In the U14 Luke Smith took the honours with Liam Murray claiming 4th place in a hard fought race of 18.6km over 3 laps of the circuit. Luke and Liam were both well placed in the leading bunch throughout the race but in what has become a familiar sight this year Luke put in a strong kick up the final climb to the finish line to take 1st place with Liam taking 4th in a close run race. We had three riders in the U12’s, David O’Sullivan, Shane Murray and John Tierney making his seasonal debut. The U12 race was 12.4km covering two laps of the circuit and at the end of the first lap David and John were well placed in the leading bunch with Shane a little ways back but going strongly and the rest of the group spread back down the road. As the lead bunch came into view David was in the leading group of three riders but was narrowly beaten into 3rd place in a hard fought sprint for the line with John coming in close behind in 4th place and Shane taking the final podium place in 6th. It was an incredible day for the club with all of the Junior riders taking home silverware and all the parents out in force shouting, cheering and generally doing their best to embarrass the kids however the smile of the day moment must go to Pat Tierney watching John cross the line. He has now promised to get him his pedals and cleats!!!! Well done to everyone who took part and to all in the club who have helped get the Juniors to this level in such a short time
