The Kaizen Principle Read more on my blog here == robkingfitness/martial-arts/the-kaizen-principle-for-training-fitness-life/ Today I ordered Fractional Plates for my lifters at Heavyweights Training Center/ These are 1/4. 1/2, 3/4 and 1 lb plates. Why would I need these? Its simple. The kaizen principle. Slow and steady progress over long periods of time. I coach a lot of competitive female athletes and I have seen them crush a bench press. Then I add 2.5 lbs per side and it comes dead weight. I have seen girls hit a nice deadlift I add 2 - 5 lb plates and it becomes glued to the floor. You know what is better than a 100 lb bench press for a female? A 102 lb bench press. I dont like my clients missing lifts in the gym and I like to see them getting better over the long run. Also mentally even lifting 1-2 lbs more makes them mentally feel better than missing a lift. Think of it this way. IF I could add 1 lb to your bench press workout a week that would improve your bench press 50 lbs in ONE YEAR. Once you get to a certain level you wont see 20-30 lb jumps. You will see 5- 10 lbs. For females I like very small jumps with multiple sets over bigger jumps anyway. Always be trying to improve in the gym and in life even by 1% every day.
