The Kanheri Caves (कान्हेरीगुहा) constitute a group of rock-cut .The monuments Kanheri is credited with the largest number of cave excavations in a single hill. The caves were excavated as early as mid 3rd century B.C. and were in occupation right up to 11th century A.D. These are located north of Borivali on the western outskirts of Mumbai within the forests of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
