The Koch family patriarch was one of the founders of the John Birch Society. His sons are more cunning and richer and more sophisticated and arguably even more radically right-wing than he. They are attempting to fulfill their fathers Bircher fantasy of America. The first step was taking over the Republican party. The next step was taking over a whole news channel. Now with this election they are yet another step closer to taking over the government by purchasing it outright even though they are doing so with only 1/3 of Americans having voted in this last election and the votes they did it with being mostly old and white like they are. In the last election President Obama won with 51% of the vote - not since Eisenhower has a president garnered such votes - and yet the GOP and the radical right have every moment tried to delegitimize him in the eyes of Americans. I am sure McConnell and his cronies and Koched-up paymasters are laughing behind closed doors at those same voters as they set out to more firmly put into place a kind of right-wing oligarchy. No doubt the first order of business - quite literally - is stripping away as many regulations as they can get away with, especially those that have to do with the environment. Theyll toss a few religious right cultural crumbs to thwart civil rights in ways that dont affect their own lives in their bauble-laden bubble. But most of all they are all about the civil rights of corporations since theyve already had their corporatist puppets on the Supreme Court grant corporations personhood. Its all of a piece and the pieces of this long game theyve been playing since their father helped found the John Birch Society in 1958 continue to fall into place. It just takes an apathetic and uninformed and easily swayed populace. They took an African American man being elected president and in a kind of jujitsu political maneuver turned that to their advantage in ugly and effective ways. Youve got to hand it to them. But Im not ready to hand over the country. Onward to 2016.
