The LA Galaxy were eliminated from the 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday night, suffering a 1-0 defeat to the NASL Carolina RailHawks at Koka Booth Stadium Field #2 in Cary, N.C. Bruce Arena’s side will now step back into league play this weekend as they travel north to face their rivals the San Jose Earthquakes at Stanford Stadium on Saturday, June 28 at 7:30 pm PT live on NBC Sports Network. The LA Galaxy return home on Friday, July 4 when they host the Portland Timbers at 8:00 p.m. PT. The Galaxy advanced to the U.S. Open Cup Fifth Round after they defeated USL PRO side Arizona United SC 2-1 in Fourth Round action last Wednesday night at the Peoria Sports Complex in Peoria, Arizona. Gyasi Zardes tallied a brace to lead the Galaxy to the 2-1 win and passage to the Fifth Round of the 101-year-old tournament. The Galaxy are now 25-14-1 all-time in U.S. Open Cup play. The Galaxy have entered the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup every year since 1999, winning the tournament in 2001 and 2005 while reaching the Open Cup Final on two other occasions. The Galaxy have lost to non-MLS competition five times in the history of the tournament. Three of those five defeats have come consecutively against the Carolina RailHawks in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
