The [LDS] Church expects members in the United States to collectively invest approximately $17,561,000 per year on scouting hard costs (ages 8-18). This cost is only for uniforms, awards, supplies and BSA registration. There is no equivalent investment for girls ages 8-18 in the LDS church. Ugh. Now the scouts in my ward want a donation for sticking a flag in my yard on holidays. They will use this for camp outs, scout camp, high adventure activities, and the like. My daughters, meanwhile, get nothing and are not allowed to raise funds. Its institutionalized gender bias and obnoxiously unfair. The church needs to abandon scouting and join the 21st century.
