The Lebanese government will not make a decision on accepting or rejecting controversial military assistance from Iran amid fears of inciting a political crisis in the country and upsetting the balance of power in the region, Lebanese sources close to the government informed Asharq Al-Awsat on Monday. The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani, announced that Tehran had offered to provide military equipment to the Lebanese army to assist the country in its war on terror during a visit to Beirut on September 30. Iran offered to send the Lebanese army anti-tank missiles and launchers, heavy machine guns, ammunition, and other equipment, according to local media reports.
