The Letter I Wrote to the Future of Pius: “Dear Year - TopicsExpress

The Letter I Wrote to the Future of Pius: “Dear Year Ten, I have been at this school five years. Five long years and twenty long and arduous terms- and although I’m already on holidays, I still think of all of you guys. Congratulations to every one of you who are graduating Year 10 with your various awards at your graduation today. You have no idea how proud I am of all of you- not just to know you guys but to see you guys through day by day, month by month, year by year. No wonder I call you guys my little siblings. Next year will be one of the toughest years you have ever been through. You will go through times of stress, times of problems, times of shock. Most importantly perhaps, huge blocks of assessments where you will be forced to manage your time and manage your studies, extra curricular and your work more than ever before. You will experience TEN times as many challenges as you did this year and if you think English is hard in Year Ten, then wait till you have English next year. But seriously- you will go through a lot. I can confidently say though that any Year 12 you walk up to next year will be able to help you get through all of it- and if the person you find won’t talk to you- well, you always have me. I’ll always talk- and as people like Marc Princi and Callum Aikin will tell you- talk too much! The work’s gonna be hard. I won’t lie. Your sport is going to get more competitive. I won’t lie. Even debating kicks up a notch in Year 11- and trust me, when you’re even debating in the Year 12 competition like I did this year- that’s a whole new level. And most importantly- keeping your friends is going to be a challenge. Especially when you are all under similar stress, and more often than not, at similar times, I have found that this is the greatest challenge of them all. So what’s my advice? Well, I have a few bits, but I will start with a quote from Winston Churchill: “Boys, never give up, never give up, never give up!” Guys, I want to remind you that I’ve been through it all. Through Year 11, through Year 10, through everything to do with year 11 and even a stint of long term depression. I’m not even ashamed to admit that I’m too serious most of the days I’m alive- and I’m especially not ashamed to admit that I’m autistic. And if an autistic person can get through Year 11, then trust me- EVERYONE can. Never give up you guys. Come and find me, message me, call me, do whatever. Each of you guys are extremely important and I felt that no student was going to give heartwarming advice (ahem ahem) like mine and so was the motivation to write this letter to you guys. Please always- and never forget- the value of family, teachers, guidance coordinators, counsellors and especially your friends- girlfriends, even if need be. They will be the most important people of all during the next two years of your lives- so never forget how important these people are. My last bit of advice would be this if anything for now- work hard, and DON’T let your guard down. You will be amazed who will flourish in the next two years and you will be even more amazed at what happens when you put all these experiences together. This is not school anymore you guys- this is a competition- lose out, and the rest of your lives are in jeopardy. And I’m not overdramatising- I’m just being serious. There will be confusion, frustration and hell- but thats all part of the journey and its challenges. And lastly, thank you for being you. You have no idea, as I have already said, how proud I am of you all. You guys are some of the most important people to me in my own experience of life. From Nick Parker who practically saved my life by killing off the last of my depression- to Callum and his luckless girls stories- to Tom McKern whose undying love of sport, along with Marc Princi makes me feel like a total jerk- to people like Adrian Talarico, Ryan Attard, Billy Moran and Zac Triantafilis who make me feel like a kid all over again. From Sam Stanley who randomly added me once on Facebook and has become one of the nicest people I know- to Andrew Chiu and his undying love of the X Factor. From Matt K and Josh C, former percussionists- to Tim Reyes who just recently quit for the last time. YOU FOOL TIM! ;) You have no idea how happy, honoured and privileged I feel to know all of you. I am truly unashamed to say- I love you all with all my heart. You guys are the best. And I wouldn’t be living a day now without you guys. To break the rules of language for just five seconds here- screw Year 12. You guys are the true friends of Pius. I hope to see you somewhere along the way, school, in the sports bar or wherever. Don’t hesitate to message me and get a time to catch up this summer. You all deserve some airing time with me- and a bit of advice or two- even if it’s about life and everything in between. Good bye, good luck, God bless and see you soon. Yours Sincerely, Hans Lee Cultural Prefect, Class of 2015” And I am never ashamed to have written that letter for you guys...have a fantastic summer! #ProudOlderBrotherMoment
