Toronto dropped to 9-13 with the loss, and they travel to London Canada Day for a 6 p.m. game against the London Majors. Kitchener improved to 11-9 with the win and stayed in third place in the IBL thanks to a five-run sixth inning and another five-run ninth, which gave the Panthers more than enough offence to go with some decent pitching. Nivins blasted a two-run shot in the fifth and another three-run blast in the ninth, and Jeff Pietraszko and Bryon Bell also homered for the Panthers. Pietraszko wound up with three hits, two runs scored and three RBI, while Bell also had three hits, scoring twice and driving in two more. Mike Andrulis had two hits and scored three runs, Mike Winter added two hits and an RBI and Matt McGovern also had two hits for the Panthers, who got some solid starting pitching from Mike McGillvray. Three relievers finished up, with the Leafs scoring six of their runs after Kitchener had taken a 10-1 lead after seven innings. Toronto starter Rick Brooks was the loser. He lasted six innings and allowed nine runs – just four earned – on 10 hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Relievers Scott Kelly, Conor Lillis-White and Drew Taylor were all hit hard as well. Will Richards had three hits, including a homer, and scored twice for the Leafs, who were also hurt by four errors. Sean Mattson added a grand slam homer in the eighth and Sean Reilly’s two hits included a two-run homer with two outs in the ninth. Reilly also scored twice.
