The Lord Jesus - our Role Model for life Luke 2:51-52 ‘And He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them, but His mother kept all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and men.’ Beloved the above verse says the young boy Jesus grew in wisdom. In Luke 2:46-47 we see how Jesus was able to ask questions and have an intellectual conversation at the age of 12 with the teachers in the temple. Verse 47 of Luke 12 says ‘And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers. Luke 12:40 says ‘The child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom and the grace of God was upon Him.’ Yes the Lord grew in knowledge and revelation of the Old Testament law, historical accounts of Israel and books by the prophets. He knew them so well that no one could argue back at Him. Later on in His ministry we see how no matter how hard the Pharisees and Sadducees tried to trap Him they could not because He was full of the wisdom of the Word of God. Beloved, study of the Word is what fills you with wisdom. Psalm 119:97-100 says ‘oh how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day. You through Your commandments make me wiser than all my enemies; For they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers, for Your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients, because I keep your precepts.’ Yes beloved what is the Psalmist saying? Study of the Word fills you with spiritual and even earthly wisdom. I have said this before and I say it again, the Bible is the best management, business, science, medicine, technology and all subjects text book in the world. That is why we insist on all believers spending time daily meditating and studying the Word. Today you have the benefit of many study bibles, commentaries explaining the bible and notes from good teachers to help you also available in many Christian book stores. So you have more luxuries than Jesus did. All He had were hand written scrolls that each Jewish home had which was a Jewish tradition. Beloved like how the Lord Jesus was full of knowledge of the Word of God, let us also fill ourselves with His word. Daily we must meditate on the Word of God and if we find more time instead of reading fruitless worldly magazines let us take the Book of life – the Bible and meditate on it. Then you too will be full of wisdom and like Jesus astonish people at the answers you give at your exams, board meetings, interviews, presentations, discussions, preaching, business meetings, sales meetings or whatever event where you must speak. Let us do as Psalm 119:111 tells us ‘Your testimonies I have taken as a heritage forever, for they are the rejoicing of my heart.’ Make the Word of God the most prized possession that you must read and meditate at every opportunity you get and you will be blessed.
