The Lord’s Prayer E-mail Print PDF Lk 11:1-4 1[Jesus] was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples.” 2He said to them, “When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. 3Give us each day our daily bread 4and forgive us our sins for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us, and do not subject us to the final test.” Reflection: Lord, teach us to pray. The disciples make this request because they frequently see Jesus praying. Often we do not know how to pray. In fact, of ourselves, we cannot pray as we should. Jesus does not only give us the “Our Father” as a model of our prayer. He also gives us his Spirit. Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, when consulted by the Asian bishops during one of their meetings held in Calcutta, spoke of Christian prayer as letting Jesus pray in us and through us. Hence, when we want to pray, let us ask Jesus, “Pray in me, Jesus. Send your Holy Spirit to me so that he may enable me to unite myself to you in prayer.” Jesus himself assures us that where two or three are gathered together in his name, he is there in the midst of them (cf Mt 18:20). Pray, sing, and celebrate the Lord’s Prayer in a spirit of joy and thanksgiving. Co
