The Louis Armstrong House Museum wishes a very happy 95th birthday to our longtime friend and supporter, George Avakian! An NEA Jazz Master and one of the greatest producers and innovators the record industry has ever known, George was a longtime friend of Louiss who produced some of the finest work of his career, including Louis Armstrong Plays W.C. Handy, Satch Plays Fats, Ambassador Satch, Satchmo the Great and the four volume Louis Armstrong Story series, which featured unissued Hot Five and Hot Seven recordings George dug up while still a student at Yale! As shown yesterday, George is still on the scene, introducing his friend Quincy Jones at our gala in December. This photo is of Louis and George during the making of the W.C. Handy session in 1954.
