The Lurie Center for Autism at MassGeneral Hospital for Children - TopicsExpress

The Lurie Center for Autism at MassGeneral Hospital for Children aims to make medical treatment more accessible for individuals with #autism. “One in 68 children has an autism spectrum disorder, and anxiety is very common in these patients,” says Dr. Timothy Buie, a pediatric gastroenterologist. “So here at Mass General we try to create a positive experience for individuals with autism. So many different caregivers come together to make it work.” One way is through the Autism Care Plan, a specialized survey developed at Mass General that parents and guardians fill out before patients come in. This helps hospital staff learn more about patients – including triggers, needs, fears and other individual characteristics – and provide them appropriate care.
