The Macedonian Literature One of the most famous and most important figures among the Macedonian writers Blazhe Koneski was also inspired by the richness and the expressiveness of the Macedonian folklore. His poem Teshkoto talks about the author’s emotions and contemplations provoked by one of the hardest Macedonian dances with the same name. Here we will present a small peace of the poem. Teshkoto (The Difficult One) By Blazhe Koneski, Translation by Stojadin B. Naumovsk) O, teshkoto! Why is that as soon as the zurli scream wild, as soon as the drum thunders with underground echo, hot sadness is burning me in the chest, why is a river poring in to my eyes, and why is that I fell crying as a child, to bend my hands, to cover my face, to bite my lips, and squeeze my cursed heart, not to shout. Blazhe Koneski (December 19, 1921 – December 7, 1993) (born in Nebregovo near Prilep) was one of the most distinguished Macedonian poets, writers, literary translators, and linguistic scholars. His major contributions are in the codification of standard Macedonian Language. https://youtube/watch?v=ragk954brjc
