The Manual I think we fathers have had more experiences with a manual, than our wives. My wife and I raised seven children and some of the gifts we got for them required tools and some construction. Often I remembered emptying more pieces than I cared to think about along with all of the bolts, screws, washers, and grommets designed to hold the item together. I can also remember on more than one occasion when I thought I knew enough to ignore the instructions and construct the gift only to find I had pieces left over and the item did not work like it should. There was nothing more aggravating then spending an additional hour or two tearing down what I had constructed and then following the manual sent with the item defining how it should be put together. It was even worse when one of my sons put something together with pieces left over and a non-functioning whatever it was and wanting me to fix it. Worse than all of this was the item that came with no manual. Add to all of this the difficulty most males have with stopping and asking for directions when they are lost. Too many do not want to admit they are lost and they sure don’t want anyone else to know they are lost. Before Garmin and GPS we had maps that had been well charted and yet, we got lost even when we had a map because we would not use it. Have you ever heard, “Well, I know what the map says, but it is wrong!” or, “I don’t care what highway it says to take I am going to go my own way!” (I don’t have a Garmin or GPS device). I have titled this writing “The Manual.” I am being explicit. I don’t know of anything else that can be called “The Manual,” but the Bible. It is the manual that instructs a traveler about the route to take to reach a peaceful eternity. Many men have occupied the positions I have mentioned above in interpreting “The Manual” and some go so far as to think there alternate routes to reach the same destination. Some are smart enough to say I am lost and my life isn’t what it should be, so I am going to ask for directions. Others are too proud to say they are lost and have no intention of asking anyone for direction thinking it would make them appear weak. It is not surprising knowing man’s nature that there are those who will argue even though they have not read “The Manual.” There is a way that is above every way. There is a Savior who is the Way, the Truth and the Life, and there is an explicit message and directions for our redemption. The religions and construction of some men have clouded the path or hidden it altogether. I would remind them that if God does not build the house they labor in vain the build it. Jesus Christ is the Author, The Finisher, The Beginning and the End. There is no other name given under heaven, among men, whereby we must be saved. Jesus said, “If you believe not that I am He you shall die in your sins.” He whom The Father has set free is free indeed.
