The Medicine Wheel For some, even the original meanings of the Medicine Wheels we know of... remain a mystery. To seem to be a wagon wheel like assembly of rocks in a long past sacred location. Due to history and one we are now better informed of, Native Traditional Practices became again legal for the People to engage in again, and came out of hiding with the Keepers that held that knowledge. Keep in mind, that the Medicine Wheel is maybe a little different from Native Nation to Nation. The one we are focused on here was a part of that re-birth, and Red Cloud. Brought it out and shared it with who ever wished to participate, native and non native. There was a rise happening at the time with the youth and they wanted to know, and be a part of it. These people like Red Cloud were influenced by what their Elders were sharing with them about Native Prophesies, and the days we are in. I wasnt at this particular Gathering, but back in that period I had met Red Cloud with another Native teacher Sun Bear, who had similar feelings to share Native Teachings with people outside of the Native Traditional Circles, and I might add. It was rather frowned upon by their own People and not easy for them to carry on with their individual visions. This Gathering was a part of Red Clouds vision, and I think others here that were there and knew him better than I... and could share Red Clouds vision here. I was however involved in similar Gatherings in the same time period, we called them Unity Gatherings that went on from the early 80s right into the 90s. At which time they became The Spiritual Unity of Tribes Gatherings and the focus was to give a voice to the Elders, and have them tell us what it was we need to do in the coming days. So Elders Conference, was added into the title. The next was held in Montreal and then another in Fort Quepelle again. This to compare all the different Native Nations Prophecies and what parts of the Native teachings, needed to be shared... with the World. Black Elks Hoop of Many Hoops... I believe that this was a vision of The Medicine Wheel. What was needed to integrate all the worlds cultures together, and form a greater UNITY for Humankind in a glorious future. That was shown to him. The world they knew in their day, was rapidly changing, and still is... but it is darkening. We carried on with what the Elders of that generation shared with us, and most of them if not all that lived in the Old Ways, have passed on. As my Elder has and his wife my Grandma Mary did 3 year passed now. Probably what most came out of those Elders Conferences, was agreed to be teaching The 7th Generation Principle. That those of the 7 generations past lived so that we would have a world to live in now. That we carry that and ensure that there will be a world seven generations in the future for our childrens childrens children to live in. To experience the Circle of Life the The Creator gave us as a gift to care for and be caretakers of and for... Mother Earth. In my way of looking at this, it is the Spirit of the Gathering that we are here to generate and share together that responsibility, and ensure that the 7th Generation Principle is carried on through this generation. A generation that is a part of a greater illness that Humankind is infected with and it requires a Spiritual Medicine to alter its course... this is what the Elders of that time shared with us at those Gatherings, and Conferences. Many have gone out and done marvellous work, like my Brother Phil Lane Jr, in his travels south to join the Eagle and the Condor prophecies. I went North and started a Healing Ground and Sweat lodge and worked with the People for 12 years, as the Elders asked me to. Now the time has come again to fire up the Medicine Wheel for another Generation. The time is short and the need great. The Elders of the day were very concerned about their Elders that had shared with them about The Third Great Shaking. Some felt the first two were the first two world wars and that possibly a third world war would come, some believed it was the Earth Mother finally fed up with her wayward children and would just shake us off... so that she could heal. That remains to be seen... These are the kind of things that we wish to be shared here, what are your teachings and prophecies. What does this generation need to know of our now, and where we are headed into an unknown future. Maybe forget about arguing about whos teachings are the truth, or more important, or what culture needs them most. Lets share together and seek out The Healing Way and how will the Medicine Wheel help us, to solve the worlds ailments. Im leaving here and sharing the Morning Star Medicine Wheel that was a gift to me. I hope that this Gathering will help to heal the land its on and the People that live upon that land regardless of what colour or religion they are.
