The Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioners (MICNP) has been working hard on behalf of APRNs in Michigan, and we need your help. Time is running out in this legislative session (or it will be tabled until the fall) for a vote on SB 2, the NP scope of practice legislation that MICNP has been supporting in recent months. We would like to move forward with passage of this legislation - so please contact your Senator today! Below are two scripts –one to use to contact Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville and ask him to consider putting SB2 before the Senate for a vote before summer recess, and another to use when contacting your Senator and ask for a "YES" vote on SB2! 1) SB 2 Call or Email Script for Majority Leader Richardville (517-373-3543 phone # or [email protected] - if emailing include your name, home address and phone number): Hello Majority Leader Richardville, I am an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in Michigan and I am contacting you today to urge you to take up Senate Bill 2 for a floor vote this week. This legislation will ensure public safety by having a clearly defined limited scope of practice that reflects our professions education, training and national certification. This legislation does NOT expand our scope of practice. Rather, it will allow for APRNs to provide healthcare services within their scope of practice for which we are educationally and experientially prepared. It is like the 18 other states and District of Columbia that have already passed this type of language, some over 20 years ago with no deleterious effects to citizens. There is over 40 years of research that has proven that APRNs are high quality, cost-effective health care providers. Further, it has been shown that access to health care is better for citizens in states that permit APRNs a defined scope of practice reflective of their education, experience and national certification. Please consider voting on SB 2 on the floor before summer recess. Thank you. 2) SB 2 Call or Email Script for your Senator(s): (if you are unsure who your Senator is, click HERE to check using your home address) Hello Senator _____, I am an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in your district and I am contacting you to ask for your support of a floor vote this week, on Senate Bill 2.
