The Michigan Secretary of State has ruled veteran Congressman John Conyers is NOT eligible for the August Democratic primary ballot because his campaign did not collect enough valid nominating petition signatures. But this is not the final word on the question. A federal judge in Detroit is expected to rule later today on a challenge to Michigans requirement that only registered voters can circulate nominating petitions. The Conyers campaign, backed by the American Civil Liberties Union, says thats unconstitutional.
