The Mineral Queen Prospect, Lukes Gravestone, Ready Bullion Falls, and An old Cabin: The Mineral Queen Mining company drove a 410 foot adit, in 1887. A second shorter adit was driven about that same time. The work was abandoned by 1888, some say it was low value ore, others say the company didnt have much backing, and were unable to fund a fan system to keep the tunnel from filling with bad air from the blasting and drilling. Sometime after 1900, the first 100 feet of the longer adit were enlarged and used for storing explosives by the Ready Bullion Mine. There are 2 open of 3 adits. Which have 410 feet, 40 feet, and the caved adit at 18 feet. There is also an open cut and several long, sloughed in trenches. Our group stopped outside the main Mineral Queen adit, some explored others took pictures of the massive iron doors laying on the ground about 30 feet from their original location on the tunnel entrance. We stopped by Lukes gravestone, and cleaned up the area a bit. I dont have any history on who this mystery 22 year old was, or for that matter when he died. Sometime in the last 15 years a corner of the limestone tombstone was destroyed. As a youth I remember it reading 193...something but that is just a memory. At Ready Bullion falls the group split up for a bit and wandered around taking pictures, some of the ocean, stream, falls, and even an old wooden yacht on the beach. Great place to watch bears fish when the pinks and dog salmon start running. I was able to get everyone together at the top of the falls for a group picture with the help of Joe McCabe. Quick stop at an old cabin on the stream, then we headed back home. Some of the younger group ran up the hill to see the second Mineral Queen adit and the piles of quarts around the entrance, then rejoined the group down on the beach. Thanks to everyone that came!
