The Minnesota Retired Race Horse Project doesnt ask for donations or money to care for the TBs that they take in, retrain, and then adopt to permanent homes. They keep the numbers down to ensure each horse gets what it needs BUT they could not ignore the call that came in this last week. A group of tattooed emaciated TB mares were sitting in the kill pen in Fargo, and some obviously pregnant with one close to foaling. A couple dedicated individuals were able through networking to secure the mares, one with a horrific facial laceration and skull fracture obtained when she tried to follow her horse friend into the auction pen and the personnel slammed the gate shut on her face. Donations are greatly needed at this time as the mares are not going to be cheap to refeed quickly so the can support the growing babies.
