The Minutes of the NWFDIA General Meeting held on 25 July 2013 at Kingsway Hotel, Kingsway, Rochdale OL16 5HS Welcome Chairperson, Terry Charnock, welcomed everyone and opened the meeting at 8pm. Present Chairperson, Terry Charnock; Peter Barnes, Linda Brooks, Chris Cooper, Harold Lightfoot, Charles Owens, Jane Robinson and Todd White. Apologies Greg Adams, Saghir Ahmed, Des Desai, Gus Keep, Pete Laws, Ken Nelson, Salma Patel, Phil Sharrock, Dave Thomas, Tony Pearson, Financial Account June 2013: Balance £500.80 8 July 2013: Balance to Sue Ince, Caterer Leigh RUFC - £25 from NWFDIA (£150 paid by BCC Group, Bolton – our sincere thanks to them.) Balance: £475.80 Expenses Des Desai - £25 Balance: £450.80 The accounts were proposed by Peter Barnes, seconded by Chris Cooper, carried. Minutes 6 June 2013 – Proposed by Todd White, seconded by Jane Robinson. Carried. Chairperson’s Report Terry mentioned how pleased he was with the turnout at the 20th Anniversary Event in Leigh. 100 were booked in but 12 failed to show on the night, but two extra came making the total 90. He went on to thank everyone who came, local association officers for chasing up their members and getting them to make it such a wonderful night. Greg Adams and Leigh RUFC for providing the facilities and their excellent staff, plus BCC Bolton for bringing cars along and paying £150 towards the cost of the refreshments; Sue Ince for the refreshments, really first class. Much praise was heaped on Mark Magee, DSA ADI Registrar, for his open approach and effort to answer all the questions. Thanks to Salma and Jane who took notes. A motion was put forward that we ask Mark Magee to come and speak at an event next year around the first week of July. This was proposed by Charles Owen, seconded by Chris Cooper, and carried. Last but by no means least, Terry thanked Peter Barnes for his talented performance in helping to keep the event moving along; being able to keep people enjoying things and bringing a smile to their faces was a real gift and Peter used it to very good effect. Thank you, Peter. (There was a round of applause for Peter.) ASSOCIATION REPORTS: Atherton Greg Adams and Atherton Association, plus the committee of Leigh RUFC were thanked again for their efforts on Monday, 8 July 2013. Blackburn & District ADI Association Linda mentioned a successful meeting that the Blackburn and District ADI Association held on 1 July at the Citroen Garage, Bank Top, Blackburn; the guest speaker being Mr John Lepine, MBE, General Manager of MSA GB Limited. Citroen provided an excellent buffet. Bolton & Bury ADI Association Dave and Tony were unable to attend but Terry thanked the association for lending us their portable microphone at the 20th Anniversary Event. Liverpool, St Helens, Crosby Peter Barnes covered information and developments from the three associations. He discussed ‘Engage’ that a number of ADIs belonged to, and which was run by the local road safety associations. 100 had signed up originally but only 25 were active at the moment. He mentioned various insurance schemes being deployed by different companies. Northwich & District ADI Association. The AGM was being held on Tuesday, 30 July. Oldham ADIs Alison Wilkinson DSA had announced her retirement. Very popular in the area and would be sadly missed. Rochdale & District ADIs Association The association was expected to hold their September meeting at Rochdale CC premises with a DSA Supervising Examiner in attendance. South Manchester & District ADIs Association An excellent talk had been given at their last meeting by a Diabetics Specialist. Gus Keep, chairperson for many years had announced his retirement from the chair due to his increased activities with NWFDIA RoADAR Group. In recognition for his outstanding work, the association had made him a Life Member. It was expected the Rob Farrelly would be appointed as the new chairperson. Warrington Professional DI Association In between meetings, nothing to report; Terry thanked Jane and Chris for their regular input and attendances at the NWFDIA meetings. Widnes & District ADI Association. Terry had been in contact by email with the local chairperson, Graham Cain, and was hoping that NWFDIA could help Widnes to get back on its feet. A NWFDIA team would attend Widnes’ next meeting. Closure and Next Meeting: The meeting closed at 10.00m with the next meeting – being the Annual General Meeting – which was arranged to be held at the Kingsway Hotel, Kingsway, Rochdale OL16 5HS on 26 September 2013 at 8:00pm.
